Message from the Board

On October 15, 2008 there was a meeting in Beaumont, Texas at the Jefferson County Court house hosted by restorebolivar.com. Galveston County Commissioner Judge James Yarbrough said that he and the commissioners of Galveston County are all in agreement and are 100% behind the Bolivar Peninsula and making it even better than before. He alluded to the fact that many changes need to be looked at in the future such as: raising the highway so it can be used as a water barrier, a sewer system, and some kind of barrier to save the beaches, like a larger geo tube. He said that debris removal is going slower than normal because the search for bodies is not over. He said that they cannot come on private property for debris removal. That is why it is important for us to clean up our property and move it to the road.

Our homes went in all directions. Items have been found a half mile away. There are beds and other items on empty lots. In order to get these lots and home sites cleaned off we need a Canal City Clean Up Day. We are shooting for Saturday, November 15th, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the home of Fred Tillman located on Van Zant. We will have hot dogs and burgers for lunch with drinks supplied. We will need wheel barrows, long ropes or chains, trucks with winches or four wheel drive. Please bring gloves and boots. If you need help cleaning up your place let Grant Nelson know. His telephone number is 409-781-3682. If you do not want anyone to go on your property and clean it up let us know. If we do not hear from anyone we will assume it is okay. REMEMBER this is a one time emergency cleanup. After this you will be responsible for cleaning up your lot and hauling debris away.

The Texas Government Land Office is going to dredge the intercoastal canal and put the sand back on the beach. I have volunteered one of our canals for them to run the pipe to the beach. The time frame for this has been proposed for December.

The Galveston County Health Department spoke about having our septic tanks inspected by a certified inspector to insure we can get a permit in the future.

The Peninsula SUD spoke about making sure your water is turned off at your meter. This is important because they cannot turn on the water in the subdivision until all water is turned off. Their web site is www. BPSUD.com

Galveston County is going to remove the debris out of the canals but this has to be done separate from the debris removal from the roads due to contamination issues.

Galveston county Commissioner Doyle made it clear to beware of people trying to buy your property. You might do something you may regret later on.

Any changes to the location will be posted on the web site.

Vicki Cartwright is running for the water board. Make sure your voice is heard. Get out the vote. Polling place for Bolivar residents is at the High Island High School. Check out the web site for early voting and more on voting at http://www.bpsud.com. Only Galveston County registered voters can vote.

The curfew has been changed to 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are still working on Porta Cans and hope to have some in place in the next seven days. Entergy was laying poles Saturday and will be putting power lines in next week.

Thanks,

Canal City POA Executive Board
